I follow both of them on Spotify! I looove Sunkissed Lola.
In and out of internet. 🤷🏻♀️
Sasagutin ko sana Myx, pero between cord-cutters and the franchise denial, it just isn't as influential as it used to be. It's Showtime—I added a Gracenote song to one of my playlists because of it, and I saw Nameless Kids there first before I got to watch them live.
Otherwise, with NU 107 a cherished memory and Jam 88.3 being a shell of what it used to be, the best we have right now is the Wish Bus.
Pero sana sa halip na maging competition for attention ang social media sites, eh maging effective platform din promote more OPM.
To be fair, social media does help. Just look at how far and wide SB19 and Bini have gotten, thanks in part to evangelizers online (and a good amount of shitposting in the latter's case).
I imagine there's a bit of a learning curve for bands because, to an extent, selling yourself is difficult, especially when you're all "it's about the music, guys!"—if you fashioned yourself as a "credible" musician and you suddenly get social media savvy, you'd probably be deemed an annoying sellout... I've certainly had such thoughts before.
But ultimately those are driven by the artists and fans and aren't necessarily neutral. There used to be a good number of websites covering "the scene" a decade ago, but now we only really have Billboard, and it's a glorified fashion magazine. Most broadcast media have given up that ground to online giants from abroad. Sure, Spotify has cultivated Filipinp stars in its own way, but should we give up that ground to online giants from halfway around the world?
Somehow, especially for indie artist who wants to make a living, should market themselves through different media platforms.
Best thing about our technology now, hindi na fully dependent ang mga musicians for big recording companies. They should get the monetary benefits they deserved.
I think you're right, we're lacking good local platforms now.
Though we have still radio stations dedicated to promote our very own Filipino music. Obviously, hindi na gaanong into radio karamihan saten.
True on the first point. I believe SunKissed Lola is not signed to a label (just a distributor) but their songs are everywhere.
As for the second point, I think it was much better then. You had stations devoted to playing newer artists, and one that had a 24/7 OPM music policy. Although you can say they had to adapt to the times, too. I'd argue Wish FM does more to promote local music than any other radio station in the country at the moment, but I bet more people watch their videos on YouTube (or appliance stores, haha!) than listen to the Roadshow.

Hehe
